Maria Toro @ CSM on making the Third Collective film
When making the film, we aimed to bring a new perspective to our collection, develop a new idea that would make our group’s concept even stronger. The bustling amalgamation of cultures in the city was our starting point and with reclaimed tweed, sequins, leather and yarns our group created a humorous, unpretentious, and straight-forward aesthetic that we also embraced for the film. The narrative is based on old folk stories and fairy tales from different parts of the world, some brought to light from our own backgrounds and some from literature. Just as upcycling was our aim with the garments, with the film we wanted to reinterpret these stories and place them in a contemporary context. Three women and three different tales: The ThirdCollective film is a surreal account of these timeless stories in a modern world.
